Small Grains for Brewing & Distilling Field Day

Michigan barley

Join Michigan State University Extension at the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) to expand your understanding of the variety performance of small grains used for brewing and distilling throughout the state. This field day will showcase the research and provide networking opportunities for those engaged with the industry.

This year, 21 winter rye varieties and over 100 spring and winter barley varieties are being trialed, along with an oat variety trial and a small grain fungicide trial. Attendees will have the opportunity to view multiple plots and hear speakers covering a variety of topics. Learn more about this event.

Judgement of Michigan Wines

The Michigan Wine Collaborative is now accepting entries for the Judgement of Michigan Wines. This event will bring in professionals from around the state to evaluate submissions, in addition to offering media tours, promotion opportunities, and an industry meet and greet. Michigan Brewers Guild Golf Outing

The Michigan Brewers Guild has planned a series of “Great Beer State Golf Outings” in support of Michigan breweries and the Guild. The next outing will be held on Wednesday, August 11, at Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, followed by an outing on Saturday, October 9, at Treetops Resort in Gaylord.

Michigan Craft Beverage Council Seeks Research Input

As the Michigan Craft Beverage Council identifies research program priorities for the next cycle of grants, we are asking the industry for their input on important topics. Over the last three years, MCBC has invested more than $1 million toward projects to support and enhance Michigan’s craft beverage industry.

To submit your craft beverage research topic suggestions, you may either participate in our poll, or email your ideas directly to MDARD-CraftBev@michigan.gov.

MDARD Announces Public Input Period for Rural Development Fund Grants

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced a public input opportunity for the Rural Development Fund Grants Program. To ensure effective program priorities, MDARD is asking that public comments be emailed to mda-grants@michigan.gov by Friday, July 2, 2021.
