USDA publishes final rules on hemp production

On January 15, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) published its final rule on its Domestic Hemp Production Program. With the publication of the final rule, the USDA provides the regulatory framework for hemp production throughout the United States. At this time, the final rule is scheduled to take effect on March 22, 2021.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) will work with state legislators to update Michigan’s hemp grower law to be in alignment with federal requirements. MDARD will resubmit its state plan for USDA approval once the updates to state law have been made.
