Indoor Dining to Resume February 1

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has confirmed that indoor seating may resume on February 1, with restrictions. Guidelines for reopening include seating at 25% capacity, leaving six feet between tables, and a 10 p.m. curfew. Jamie Zmitko-Somers Announced as New Agriculture Development Division Director

Jamie Zmitko-Somers

Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Gary McDowell announced the selection of Jamie Zmitko-Somers as the department’s new Agriculture Development Division Director effective Monday, January 25, 2021.

Zmitko-Somers has been with the department for 23 years in various capacities, including Deputy Division Director, International Marketing Program Manager, and Acting Deputy Director for MDARD since May 2020. 

Zmitko-Somers graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration/pre-law. Jamie and her husband Don own and operate a farm in Henderson growing corn and soybeans.

Employee Assistance Grants Accepting Applications through January 25

Applications are open for Employee Assistance Grants, administered through the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation. Grant applications are limited to one per person, and the application period closes on Monday, January 25, at 5pm.

Michigan Craft Beverage Council Research Grants

A Joint Evaluation Committee of the Michigan Craft Beverage Council met on December 15, 2020, to review program grant applications. Recommendations were presented to the full Council on January 20.
