USDA Re-opens Public Comment Period on the Hemp Production Interim Final Rule

September 8, 2020

On Friday, September 4, 2020, the United States Department of Agriculture and Rural Development re-opened the public comment regarding the interim final rules for the U.S. Domestic Hemp Program.  As Michigan’s industrial hemp ag pilot growing season begins to wrap-up, this is another opportunity for growers to provide valuable feedback to federal decision makers. Growers have an additional chance to help guide the regulatory framework for the hemp industry. MDARD is encouraging hemp licensees and other stakeholders to take advantage of this.

Growers, processors and other interested parties will need to submit their comments into the Federal Register. Additionally, notice of this extension is currently available for viewing in the Federal Register and was published Sept. 8, 2020. Comments must be received by Oct. 8, 2020.

Written comments should be submitted via the Federal eRulemaking portal at www.regulations.gov. Comments may also be sent via email to farmbill.hemp@usda.gov or sent by postal mail to USDA/AMS/Specialty Crops Program Hemp Branch, 470 L’Enfant Plaza SW, PO Box 23192, Washington DC 20026.

More information about the provisions of the interim final rule is available on AMS’s Hemp Production webpage.
