Hello, Michigan Produce Farmers!

Please check your voicemail! Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Produce Safety staff continue to make phone calls to farmers throughout the state to verify basic farm information, including farm name, address, farm food safety contact and phone number; and what produce is grown, harvested, packed and held by the farm. In addition, we will ask for an estimated range of your annual gross produce and food sales. All of this information is used to determine if your farm is covered by the Produce Safety Rule (PSR), if any exemptions apply to your farm, and when you may be due for an inspection if you are covered by the PSR.

During and after the call, the MDARD Produce Safety Inspector is happy to answer questions and provide information on free resources. If we do not reach you by phone, we may send a follow-up email or even a post-card in the mail. Ultimately, we want to avoid an unannounced visit to your farm. If you prefer, you can provide this same information via an online survey or mailed post-card. Feel free to reach out to your produce safety inspectors, Brent Kreiger at (517) 275-0212, Emily Hollingsworth at (231) 670-4600, or Joe Smith at (269) 930-0443, with questions or to initiate the call at your convenience.
