USDA Final Interim Hemp Rules -
Opportunity to Provide Comments
11.25.19
As previously announced on November 6, 2019, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has published their final interim rules for industrial hemp. The interim final rules are available for public comment until December 30, 2019.
In summary, the USDA final interim rules establish a new part specifying the rules and regulations to produce industrial hemp. The rules outline provisions for USDA to approve state plans to produce hemp. It also includes provisions for maintaining information on the land where hemp is being produced, testing standards for ensuring compliant levels of THC, sampling and disposal requirements and requirements for enforcement, including corrective action planning.
MDARD intends to submit written comments on the final interim rule; however, as we prepare to do so, we would like your input. If you have any comments on the final interim rules, positive or negative, that you would like to share, please send them to Gina Alessandri at alessandrig@michigan.gov
This is your opportunity to influence the future regulatory framework for the industrial hemp industry in Michigan and throughout the United States. Please consider submitting your feedback either individually, as a collaborative effort with others, or by sharing your thoughts with MDARD no later than close of business on Friday, December 6.
The final interim rule and instructions for how to submit public comment are available on the Federal Register.
