REILLY CRAFT CREAMERY EXPANDS ICE CREAM RECALL DUE TO POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK
This press release is being shared as a
public service by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development
on behalf of the company.
Reilly Craft Creamery 4731 Bellevue St Detroit, MI 48207
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 28, 2018 Chris Reilly, Owner, 313-300-9859
Reilly
Craft Creamery, of Detroit, Michigan is recalling all lots of all flavors of
ice cream produced by the company since February 20, 2018, because they have
the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled
products have already been removed from the marketplace, but there is a concern
that consumers could have some of the products stored in their freezers. No
illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
Consumption
of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an
uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Listeriosis can cause high fever,
severe headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause
miscarriages and stillbirths. The very young, the pregnant, the elderly, and
persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to infection.
People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
The
recalled ice cream was distributed to 4 local retail grocery stores in
southeastern Michigan and one distributor in Ann Arbor. The ice cream is
packaged in paper pint cartons and the product numbers are on bottom of the
container. Reilly Craft has the following ice cream flavors:
House Made Honey Comb Mint Choc Chunk Choc Choc Chunk Sea Salt Caramel Hand-Steeped Coffee Single-Batch Strawberry Chocolate Deluxe (Vegan) Small-Batch Strawberry (Vegan) Butter Pecan Vanilla Bean
The
firm previously recalled one lot of two flavors of ice cream on September 4,
2018 after two samples tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, during
routine testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development
(MDARD). MDARD conducted environmental sampling at the facility where the ice
cream is produced and found Listeria monocytogenes present in areas in the
facility. Out of an abundance of caution, Reilly Craft is choosing to recall
all product back to the last clean sample, produced on February 20, 2018, which
has the lot code #022018-1.
Production
of ice cream has been suspended while Reilly Craft and MDARD continue their
investigation as to the source of the problem.
Consumers
who have purchased any flavor of Reilly Craft ice cream since February 20, 2018
are urged not to consume them and may return them to the place of purchase for
a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Reilly Craft at
313-300-9859.
