False EL Request Submissions

For students who have been erroneously identified as English Learners (False EL), users will now submit their False EL Requests in MSDS with supporting documentation being uploaded into GEMS/MARS.

The window for submitting requests runs from Dec. 10, 2025 to Jan. 16, 2026.

For step-by-step instructions on who may submit a request and how requests are submitted, please visit MDE's False EL web page. For information regarding common scenarios, documentation required, and potential MDE responses, please visit: WIDA False EL Guidance.

Student Assessment Pre-ID Using MSDS Data

The MDE Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability will pre-identify students on the OEAA Secure Site for the Spring 2026 assessments using Fall 2025 General Collection data and student record maintenance files.

  • Students in grades 3-11 and required grade 12 will be pre-identified to the SAT with Essay, WorkKeys, PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10 and M-STEP based on their grade using the Fall 2025 General Collection and SRMs certified through 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2025.

Correct, up-to-date MSDS information will help assessment coordinators ensure that student information for assessments is accurate. This is a one-time pull from MSDS for the spring assessment Pre-ID process. Schools will be responsible for pre-identifying any additional students directly on the OEAA Secure Site.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact mde-OEAA@michigan.gov or call 877-560-8378 and select option 1.
