Featured Report: Student Enrollment Counts

The Student Enrollment Counts Report in MI School Data has been updated with data for school year 2022-23.

Overall K-12 headcount fell by 0.6%, or 8,811 students.

The largest declines were in grades 8, 9 and 12. Some grades saw an increase. The largest increase was in first grade, with a gain of 4.1% (just over 4,000 students).

The trend view lets you see changes over time. In the graph below, you can see that overall K-12 enrollment has been trending slightly downward for the past ten years.

The report also lets users explore subgroups, which can help us start to see the deeper story behind the data. For example, changes in enrollment actually vary between different racial/ethnic subgroups. While Michigan had an overall decrease in student count in 2022-23, there was an increase in enrollment among Hispanic and multi-racial students.
