CEPI applications and MI School Data will be intermittently offline for maintenance on Sunday, Sept. 4 from 6 a.m. to noon EDT. Only limited informational inquires will be available during this time.
Removal of 2020-21 School Year Data
CEPI will remove all 2020-21 school year data from the staging area during school year rollover. Request for UIC Collection records submitted prior to July 1, 2022, will also be removed.
If you wish to retain any data from the 2020-21 school year, download and save your collections and reports by 4 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2022. After this date, users will no longer have access to staging areas or certified reports for that school year.
2021-22 Third Grade Retention Collection Deadline Reminder
The 2021-22 Third Grade Retention Collection closes on Sept. 1. Records must be certified by 11:59 p.m. Students who are subject to retention per the Read By Grade Three law are required to be reported in this collection with a retention decision. For additional information, an FAQ document has been posted to the web page under Help and Training.
EOP Early Childhood Collection Deadline Reminder
The 2022 End of Program Early Childhood Collection certification deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 24. Records must be certified by 11:59 p.m.
Certified fall REP data are due to CEPI by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1. Review the Fall 2022 REP Data Field Descriptions guide for updates to the fall submission.
The Teacher Student Data Link Collection is required for all students, which increases the need for accurate Fall and EOY REP reporting. Many data quality issues are tied to assignment and PIC reporting within the REP. CEPI recommends reviewing the Best Practices for REP and TSDL Course Reporting document at the start of the school year.
The Educator Effectiveness Appeals window opens Sept. 1. For more information on how to submit an appeal, please see the Educator Effectiveness Appeals guide. The EE Appeals window will end at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1.
The Special Education Transportation Expenditure Report (SE-4094) and Special Education Actual Cost Report (SE-4096) are now open in the FID application. The 2021-22 FID Collection opens Sept. 6 and closes Nov. 1.
Key Collection Dates:
- District users should complete and submit the forms to their intermediate school districts by:
- SE-4096: Sept. 16
- SE-4094: Sept. 24
- ISDs submit their own and all constituent district forms by:
- SE-4096: Oct. 1
- SE-4094: Oct. 7
Note: Due to technical difficulties, the FID will only be recording Balance Sheet Major Class Codes this year at a two-digit level, not the anticipated three-digit level.
For support material, see the FID web page and the Michigan Public School Accounting Manual.
CEPI has contracted with global accounting firm Ernst & Young to perform an independent review of cost estimating methodologies compared to actual compliance practices in school districts. To assist with this review, surveys were emailed from EY Survey Center <noreply@qualtrics.ey.com> on Aug. 3 and 4 to FID, REP, SID and MSDS authorized users. The deadline to provide feedback is Aug. 23.
The purpose of these surveys is to estimate the time cost of complying with the data reporting requirements associated with these applications. Your district's input and feedback will help ensure accurate data on the steps school districts take to comply with data entry requirements and the time it takes to do so. Please note, individual responses will not be shared; only aggregate survey results will be used in the final report CEPI receives.
Districts report all incidents that result in expulsion. For students with an IEP, districts must also report all incidents that result in suspension.
By law, districts are not required to report suspensions for students without an IEP. However, MDE encourages districts to voluntarily submit this important data for all students.
Where do districts report discipline information?
MSDS: Use the Discipline Component to report discipline data in the General and/or SRM collections.
Why does it matter?
In addition to being required by law for state/federal reporting, including the Gun Free Schools Report, IDEA reporting, and the Parent Transparency Dashboard, these data are used by education policy analysts and researchers to inform state policy.
For example, earlier this year, researchers found that “Students who have experienced homelessness are disciplined at higher rates.” As noted in the article, these findings can lead to policy and legislative changes that directly affect your schools and students. Without complete data, education policy analysis and decisions are less informed and potentially flawed. Please do what you can to support good information for policy-making in Michigan.
For questions about reporting discipline data, see the MSDS support material on the CEPI website.
