SID - The Matt Epling Safe School Law Results in the Return of Bullying Incident Data Reporting

The Matt Epling Safe School Law (2014 PA 478) requires that school districts report the number of bullying (including cyberbullying) incidents that occur at school or school-sponsored activities. The new law is currently in effect. Districts should be collecting data on bullying incidents throughout the 2015-16 School Year and be ready to submit those data in the EOY 2016 School Infrastructure Database (SID) collection. The SID short- and long-form worksheets have been updated to accommodate the new requirement and can be found under the Help and Training dropdown on the SID Web page.

MSDS Section 64b Funding Available for the 2015-16 School Year

Section 64b of the State School Aid Act provides $1,750,000 for supplemental payments to districts for students who take a college course while in high school. The purpose of the funding is to increase the number of pupils who are college and career ready upon high school graduation.

Districts may receive $10 per credit, up to three credits, when a student in grades 9-12 enrolls in a college course, and an additional $30 per pupil per course if the student successfully completes the course and earns both high school and postsecondary credit. It is recommended that you wait until the course is completed to claim 64b funding, to ensure you receive full credit.

Districts may claim Section 64b funding by submitting the claim worksheet, which is located on the MSDS Web page under Technical Material. If you need assistance submitting the worksheet, please contact CEPI customer support at cepi@michigan.gov or 5173550505 x3.

Questions regarding Section 64b or dual enrollment should be directed to the MDE Office of Career and Technical Education at 517-373-3373, or the Office of Education Improvement and Innovation at 517-241-3147.
