*1 to 2:30 p.m. Winter Dweller’s Celebration - Storyteller and Folklorist, Genot Picor. During the winter months, the French voyageurs were known as "hivernauts," or "winter dwellers." Unable to paddle their canoes in the frozen waterways, they stayed in camps and found ways to occupy their time. Traveling over land by foot, they gathered for a winter rendezvous with other voyageur brigades and First Nations friends and allies. Come spend an afternoon with Michigan’s own folklorist and storyteller Genot "Winter Elk" Picor for Ann Arbor’s own Winter Dweller celebration. Feel free to hoot, holler, laugh and join in the festivities. The only excuse you can have for not participating is suffering from "mal de racquet;" swelling of the feet from wearing snow shoes. The Ann Arbor Senior Center Cultural Arts Series is made possible by a generous grant from the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor. The series is hosted on Sundays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Senior Center (1320 Baldwin Ave.). Preregistration is suggested: To make a reservation please call 734.794.6250.
