Lockdown has eliminated critical part of community social safety net in towns throughout Maine

York county organizations that contribute $500,000 annually will hold press conference Thursday in Sanford to Speak Out

SANFORD – Over a dozen community social charitable organizations in the greater Sanford area that raise and distribute nearly one-half-million dollars to disadvantaged citizens locally will hold a press conference Thursday in Sanford. Collectively, they will voice alarm over how the continued lockdown of the Maine economy and restrictions on responsible social interactions, is harming distressed communities in need of assistance.   

Participating organizations work collaboratively and with the support of area businesses, to address pressing social needs in their communities, including:

Autism and other disabilities, cancer, hunger, poverty, veterans, suicide prevention, domestic abuse, substance abuse, mental health, youth sports, literacy, crisis and other charitable needs traditionally met in communities throughout Maine.

WHAT: Press Conference

WHERE: American Legion TW Cole Post 19, 656 Main Street, Sanford, Maine

WHEN: Thursday, June 11 @ 6:00 p.m.

The following York County legislators agreed to help provide this opportunity for area businesses and residents to have their voices heard.

We respectfully request that any quotation space normally afforded to us go to participating community-serving organizations, their volunteers and recipients impacted by the lockdown of the Maine economy and responsible social interactions.
