With the school year underway, we wanted to share a quick reminder about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and data privacy when using Docket for Schools.
Docket for Schools meets both FERPA and State of Maine data privacy requirements.
School information, including rosters and individual student immunization data, can only be viewed by users authorized by the school administrator. Other school’s users cannot view this information. The Maine Immunization Program and Department of Education can view aggregate level data only.
Keeping up to date on recommended vaccinations is the best way to help protect against respiratory illness. Flu, COVID-19 and RSV spread easily and can cause severe illness, especially for older adults and people with underlying conditions. Vaccination is the best way to reduce risk and protect yourself and your community.
Vaccination recommendations include the following:
FLU:
Annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older, ideally in September or October though later vaccination can be received during season as the flu virus circulates.
COVID-19:
COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older.
RSV:
Adults ages 50-74 who are at increased risk of severe RSV disease, and adults age 75 and older should receive a single vaccine if they have not received one previously.
The Maine Immunization Program (MIP) will host its annual Respiratory Season Educational Webinar on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 @ 12:00 PM.
This webinar will be presented by MIP Vaccine Education team and will provide an overview of available respiratory vaccines through MIP for this upcoming 2026 – 2027 respiratory season.
The webinar will include:
RSV Vaccine for Infants and Adults: Overview of RSV vaccinations available for infants and adults for the 2026-2027 respiratory season.
COVID-19 & Influenza Vaccines: Review of the most up-to-date recommendations for the upcoming season.
Pneumococcal Vaccines: Review of available pneumococcal vaccines to protect against different serotypes of pneumococcal bacteria.
Q&A Session: Opportunity for providers to ask questions about respiratory vaccine availability through MIP.

During this training, all NEW primary or back-up vaccine coordinator assigned to these roles on the provider agreement are encouraged to attend to learn about MIP best practices and the responsibilities assigned to the role of a MIP Vaccine Coordinator. This session will also include time for questions and discussion.
We encourage any existing vaccine coordinator to also attend to learn more about the universal immunization program requirements.
