Congratulations to Maura Lockwood, AIM Vaccine Champion Recipient!
Maura has been selected by the Maine Immunization Program as Maine’s 2026 AIM Immunization Champion! The Immunization Champion Award is presented annually by the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) to recognize local individuals who demonstrate exemplary service or go above and beyond to promote or foster vaccinations in their communities, for both children and adults.
Maura is being recognized for her dedication to immunization efforts across Maine. She has worked to identify vaccine hesitant communities in Maine and partnered with trusted local providers and Maine CDC staff to provide education and improve access to immunizations. She also helped expand access to adult vaccine by connecting area providers who had not previously enrolled with the Maine Immunization Program.
In addition, Maura has worked to bring adult vaccine to the vaccine hesitant communities, while serving as a Council Coordinator for the Aroostook region to help increase vaccination rates. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she assisted with vaccination communication, advocacy and outreach, helping previously unvaccinated or vaccine hesitant individuals access recommended immunizations.
Congratulations Maura and thank you for your dedication and hard work!
The Maine Immunization Program is pleased to host our annual Back-to-School educational lunch and learn webinar on Tuesday, August 18 @ 12:00 PM. This webinar will review Maine’s immunization requirements for school aged children attending public/private school, including other routine recommended immunization and ways to get children caught up on vaccines.
Mark your calendars to join us for this educational opportunity to learn more about back-to-school immunization requirements and routinely recommended vaccine prevention for childhood and adolescent age groups.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated the Vaccine Storage and Handling Toolkitwhichprovides valuable information, guidance, and resources to help providers store and handle vaccines properly.
Proper vaccine storage and handling practices are essential for protecting patients by ensuring product efficacy and quality, preventing unnecessary revaccination, minimizing vaccine wastage, and ensuring a viable vaccine supply.
The Maine Immunization Program requires that all primary and secondary vaccine coordinators assigned to these roles must complete the annual Maine Immunization Program Educational Trainingrequirements. Any NEWLY assigned primary or back-up vaccine coordinators MUST also complete the educational training.
The required educational training must be completed during the month of July, due by July 31st of each new fiscal year. Any trainings completed prior to July 1, 2026, will not count towards satisfying the requirement for this fiscal year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027).
The updated training is available to be completed on the MIP website.
