The Maine Universal Immunization Program is officially underway! July 1 marked the first day of adult vaccine ordering for enrolled providers.

As we continue to work with providers through the new ordering process, we want to share a few important reminders:

Bookmark our new Universal Immunization Program webpage. This page is the central location for program updates, enrollment information, eligibility guidance, frequently asked questions, and other helpful resources. 

Enrollment

Interested in joining the program? Email ImmunizeME.DHHS@maine.gov and we’ll walk you through the enrollment process and provide the required forms and information packet to get started.

Required Educational Training

Primary and secondary vaccine coordinators are required to complete the Annual Maine Immunization Program Training. Newly assigned vaccine coordinators must complete the required educational training before participating in the program.

Office Hours

Join us for program updates, eligibility reminders, ordering guidance, and an opportunity to ask questions. The Maine CDC Immunization Program (MIP) will host Office Hours every other Thursday from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. Our next session is July 9, 2026.

Ordering Reminders

  • Please allow at least 5-7 business days for vaccine shipments.
  • If you are new to ordering through ImmPact, please see our step by step ordering instructions to walk you through the process

IMPORTANT: Continue using your existing privately purchased vaccine before ordering state supplied vaccine. Existing private vaccine may be administered to both pediatric and adult patients (ages 0-64), as long as it is being used according to age indications and routine recommendations are being followed.

Adult Eligibility

Who is eligible?

Maine residents who are 19-64 years old and:

  • Uninsured
  • Underinsured
  • Privately insured by a Maine commercial insurance plan, or
  • Enrolled in MaineCare

Patients aged 19-64 who have Medicare may be eligible only if:

  • Medicare does not cover the vaccination that is being requested (the patient would be considered underinsured) OR
  • The patient also has a secondary Maine commercial insurance plan

Who is NOT eligible?

  • Any adult aged 65 years and older, regardless of insurance status or situation

COVID-19 & Flu Vaccine

2026-2027 Season:

State supplied COVID-19 and influenza vaccine will be available through MIP only for:

  • Uninsured and underinsured adults ages 19 to 64
  • Children ages 6 months to 18 years

State supplied COVID-19 and influenza vaccine will not be available for:

  • Privately insured adults ages 19 to 64 during the 2026 – 2027 season.

Providers should continue to use privately purchased COVID-19 and influenza vaccine for privately insured adults and bill insurance as they normally would.

2027-2028 Season:

Beginning with the 2027-2028 season, state supplied COVID-19 and influenza vaccine will be available for all eligible patients ages 6 month to 64 years.
