Maine's Universal Immunization Program Expansion to Include Adults 19-64 years

Starting July 1, 2026, Maine’s Universal Immunization Program will expand vaccine access to adults 19-64 years, including those who are underinsured, uninsured, or enrolled in MaineCare. A universal immunization program will provide many benefits to both healthcare providers and patients.

If your practice is already enrolled as a MIP provider, you will only need to complete the required vaccine needs assessment. If you are not enrolled and would like to participate, contact MIP to enroll or for additional questions at ImmunizeME.DHHS@maine.gov.

Please complete the Adult Vaccine Need Assessment by June 30, 2026.

At this time, we encourage providers to use their current private stock before ordering state supplied vaccine in July. There will still be a grace period where providers can continue submitting private vaccine claims for reimbursement until their private stock has been depleted.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) — one of the most common yet preventable causes of certain types of oral and throat cancers, making awareness especially important in dental settings. HPV can often go unnoticed and can lead to serious health issues, including cancer. Dental professionals can help identify early signs of oral abnormalities during routine exams and educate patients about the benefits of HPV vaccination as a cancer prevention tool. By promoting preventive care and patient education, dental offices can support overall oral and public health. Click here to complete one-hour continuing education credit.
