The Maine CDC’s Maine Immunization Program (MIP) is pleased to announce that ordering for the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine is now open. In alignment with a Health Advisory Notice (HAN) issued September 23, 2025, and the Standing Order issued September 12, 2025, which reflect recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), MIP will supply the updated COVID-19 vaccine to all children 6 months through 18 years.
Vaccination Guidance
As outlined in the HAN, all eligible individuals should continue to receive routine COVID-19 vaccination as follows:
Children 6–23 months: Should be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Children 2–18 years: Should receive one age-appropriate dose of the 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of prior vaccination, if they:
Are at high risk of severe COVID-19,
Live in long-term care or congregate settings,
Have never been vaccinated, or
Have household contacts at high risk.
Children outside of these groups may also be offered one dose if parents or guardians request vaccination.
The VFC/317 & Direct Ship Vaccine Holiday Shipping Calendar for the 2025–2026 season is now available.
This calendar outlines expected delivery schedules, federal holidays, and shipping interruptions for McKesson, Merck Direct Ship, and Pfizer COVID Direct Ship orders.
Key Reminders:
Routine McKesson shipments can take up to 4 business days to process before shipping.
Orders placed near federal holidays may experience delays of more than 4 days.
Flu and direct ship vaccines cannot be shipped as priority orders.
Providers should maintain a minimum of 4 weeks of vaccine inventory to prevent outages due to weather or carrier delays.
Providers with modified business hours must ensure hours are updated in VTrckS to prevent shipping issues.
The Maine Immunization Program (MIP) would like to invite all NEWLY ASSIGNED Vaccine Coordinators to the quarterly educational lunch and learn, specific to NEW primary and back up vaccine coordinators but encouraged for all to join. Being a newly assigned vaccine coordinator can be overwhelming; MIP’s Education team is here to ensure everyone’s success.
The educational training will review the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, the Adult 317 program and include an overview of ImmPact. Detailed guidelines about MIP best practices will be provided along with an open discussion and Q&A.
New Vaccine Coordinators attendance is requested for one of the following dates and times below to learn the role and responsibilities of being a vaccine coordinator:
The Maine CDC hosted the annual “Start of the 2025-2026 Respiratory Virus Season, Including Influenza, COVID-19 and RSV” webinar on Wednesday,October 8th, 2025 at 12:00PM.
This annual call provides updates for the season, outline available resources, and remind facilities about reporting requirements. This call is particularly relevant for infection practitioners, providers, laboratorians, employee health, emergency preparedness, hospital administration, and long-term care facilities.
The Maine Immunization Program’s “Start at 9” Campaign was launched one year ago! This initiative encourages providers to begin the HPV vaccination series at age 9, aligning with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the National HPV Vaccination Roundtable.
Starting the series at age 9 allows for:
A stronger and longer-lasting immune response.
More time to complete the two-dose series.
Increased likelihood of full vaccination before first HPV exposure.
Fewer missed opportunities by moving HPV vaccination beyond “school-required” vaccines.
High acceptance among parents, providers, and health systems.
HPV vaccination is cancer prevention.
Join us in supporting Maine’s youth by continuing to recommend the HPV vaccine beginning at age 9.
