The Maine Immunization Program will be hosting a lunch and learn webinar TODAY, Thursday, July 11 at 12:30 PM. We are pleased to be joined by experts from the manufacturer, Merck to discuss the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. We will also be introducing the “Start at 9” campaign, which is scheduled to kick-off later this summer.
The “Start at 9” campaign will be aimed at increasing on-time vaccination rates for the HPV vaccine series across Maine. The latest research suggests that starting the HPV vaccination series at age 9 can increase the percentage of patients that are up to date by age 13. Many other states have already adopted this campaign; and the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Cancer Society, and the National HPV Vaccination Roundtable all recommend starting the series at age 9. This strategy is consistent with the current ACIP recommendation, stating the HPV series can start at age 9.
We will be sending out a letter to promote the campaign and invite providers to join us for this exciting opportunity to learn more about HPV and the campaign.
