Subject: Access to Maine’s Immunization Information System (ImmPact)

Date:  August 17, 2023

Access to ImmPact has always been limited to fully enrolled Vaccines for Children (VFC) providers until the public health emergency occurred. At that point, allowances were made for outside entities to view and obtain COVID-19 information for their patients, staff, or clients. Now that the public health emergency has ended, this access will once again be limited to fully enrolled provider sites.

Commercialization is expected to occur in mid-September at which time we will take steps to remove ImmPact access to all sites including those operating under a COVID only provider agreement, workplace sites, as well as any site operating as historical entry. Any site with a COVID only provider agreement and is currently without COVID-19 inventory or active ImmPact users, will be disenrolled from ImmPact now.

As stated in Maine’s Immunization Information System Rules, all immunization providers must be fully enrolled in the VFC program and offer all state-supplied childhood vaccines.

There are two exceptions to this rule, including:

  • Maine schools
    • Nurses will continue to have access to review their student’s immunization records for school entry.
  • Pharmacies
    • Separate legislation passed this year grants pharmacies the ability to look up their client information prior to administration of vaccine. However, all vaccines given in a pharmacy setting are now required to be entered into ImmPact.

To ensure continued access to ImmPact, please enroll with the Maine Immunization Program as a VFC provider by emailing: ImmunizeME.DHHS@maine.gov.

Should you have any questions, please contact us at (207) 287-3746 or email the above address.

As always, we thank you for all you do to keep Maine children safe from vaccine-preventable diseases.
