On January 31, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a second vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19. This news release covers additional details.
The fact sheets have also been updated to reflect this change. While there are no changes to how Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine is currently administered, ACIP will be meeting to formally review the data and discuss approval of the vaccine for use in the United States and to discuss other COVID-19 related issues.

A COVID-19 vaccine has not yet been approved for children 6 months - 4 years old, however, it is important to start conversations now with parents and caregivers. They consider healthcare providers to be their most trusted source of information when it comes to vaccines. You play a critical role in helping them understand the importance of COVID-19 vaccination and assuring them that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective for their children.

Maine Immunization Program (MIP) staff have resumed VFC Compliance site visits with providers. In addition MIP staff also will continue to conduct COVID compliance visits in-person and IQIP visits virtually.
Over the next several months, you may receive a request from MIP staff to schedule an in-person compliance site visit. These visits are required every other year for all providers who are enrolled in our program and have an active provider agreement.
For these visits to go smoothly and efficiently, we recommend having all of the items outlined in the VFC Provider Site Visit Checklist readily available when MIP staff arrive at your office.
For more information on the expectations for MIP providers and types of site visits, please visit the Maine Immunization Vaccine Provider Policy and Procedure Manual.
The CDC's 2022 Childhood and Adult Immunization schedules have not yet been updated on the CDC website. MIP will order immunization schedule posters and mail to all MIP providers once the schedules have been published. Updated schedules will be posted here.
In addition, the laminated immunization schedules will not be available to order from the Immunization Action Coalition website until at least March.
Thank you for your patience.
