MaineCare in Education- Stakeholder Meetings

In January 2022, the Office of MaineCare Services (OMS) will host four 90-minute virtual consultation sessions to provide information and receive feedback regarding MaineCare coverage of school health-related services. Representatives from the Department of Education and Child Development Services are invited to attend each session. Meeting session dates are listed below.

Because school health-related services are critical to children’s success, he Maine legislature has determined that they must be made available to the maximum extent possible under federal law. OMS is required to adopt rules governing school health-related services for children from birth  the MaineCare  Benefits Manual (MBM) that also includes services for school-aged children.

Who should attend these meetings?

OMS looks forward to receiving input from stakeholders, including providers, advocates, parents of children receiving services, and school administrative units, as we prepare to propose rules governing MaineCare reimbursement for health-related services in schools, including services that are required for children to access their education.

Sessions will be focused for specific stakeholder groups. If you are not able to attend your preferred focused group meeting, please feel free to register for any of the other sessions. To ensure access for all interested parties, sessions will not be limited to the target group participants.

Session Dates

  • January 12th from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm - MaineCare Enrolled Providers
  • January 13th from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm - School Administrators and Staff
  • January 25th from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm - MaineCare Member’s Parents and Guardians
  • January 26th from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm - MaineCare Enrolled Providers

What topics will be discussed during these sessions?

The meetings will include a brief presentation regarding the current school health-related reimbursable services and a preview of potential opportunities for additional reimbursement. You will have the opportunity to submit questions and comments via chat during the meeting and to make verbal comments as time allows. We will answer as many questions as possible and will take all comments into consideration as we prepare our rulemaking proposal. There will be additional opportunities for public comment once the rule is proposed.

How do I register for a session?

All participants must register in advance to attend. Please email your name and choice of meeting dates to: MaineCareinEducation.DHHS@maine.gov. Zoom links for each session will be sent to registered participants during the first week in January 2022.
