Attention Pharmacy Providers: Maine Tobacco Voucher Program Changes
The Tobacco and Substance Use Prevention and Control Program has expanded the Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) voucher program to MaineCare members. With this expansion, Change Healthcare has created an additional voucher type.
Currently, pharmacies may receive either of the following voucher types:
- TTP (Tobacco Treatment Program) voucher or
- CP (Community Practice) voucher
Both voucher types are billed through the Maine Tobacco program, utilizing the BIN = 008316 and the PCN = TOBACCO and the Maine Tobacco voucher is limited to the following non-prescription medications:
- Nicotine Transdermal Patch
- Nicotine Polacrilex Gum
- Nicotine Lozenge (usual and customary dosing – restricted to those eligible tobacco users for whom other forms of NRT are contraindicated)
With the enhancement, pharmacies may now receive the following additional voucher type:
- MC (MaineCare) voucher
This voucher type has the same feel as the other voucher types, but it is populated with the new MC coding and the member’s MaineCare ID#. These vouchers work similarly with regard to medication coverage but are billed through the MaineCare pharmacy program utilizing the BIN = 005526 and the PCN = MEPOP. When submitting the voucher, please also utilize the Submission Clarification Code (SCC) = 99.
