The Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) would like to invite you to join us for a webinar on August 20, 2020 at 11 a.m. to provide important updates on the status of Maine’s planning and implementation activities for the Family First Prevention Services Act.

The Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) was signed into law on February 9, 2018, reforming the federal child welfare financing streams with the aim to enhance child welfare practices across the nation by:

  • Preventing children from entering foster care by allowing states to target their existing federal resources into an array of prevention and early intervention services to keep children safe, strengthen families, and reduce the need for foster care whenever it is safe to do so.
  • Improving the wellbeing of children already in foster care by reducing placement of children in group care settings and enhancing quality of care for residential treatment programs.

Maine, like other states in the nation, is responsible for developing and implementing a FFPSA State Prevention Plan. Over the past several months, OCFS has worked closely with statewide stakeholders to begin developing a framework for implementation of FFPSA in Maine.   It is important to us to share the work that has been completed to date as well as continue to identify opportunities to work together in the creation and implementation of Maine's FFPSA State Prevention Plan.
