Section 40, Home Health Services Update
Effective March 1, 2020, as authorized by Section 3708 of the CARES Act, Advance Practice Providers (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists) have been added as professionals authorized to order and recertify Home Health plans of care as described in Chapter II, Section 40 of the MaineCare Benefits Manual.
Section 60, Durable Medical Equipment Update
Effective, March 1, 2020, Advance Practice Providers (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists) have been added as professionals authorized to prescribe Durable Medical Equipment, as described in Chapter II, Section 60 of the MaineCare Benefits Manual. Also, the Department will waive the requirement that a qualified MD, DO, PA or APRN must prescribe hearing aids. A note from an audiologist will justify medical necessity when all other criteria are met, as described in Chapter II, Section 60 of the MaineCare Benefits Manual.
MaineCare rulemaking to permanently adopt these changes is forthcoming.
