Section 60, Durable Medical Equipment Update

Effective, March 1, 2020, Advance Practice Providers (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists) have been added as professionals authorized to prescribe Durable Medical Equipment, as described in Chapter II, Section 60 of the MaineCare Benefits Manual. Also, the Department will waive the requirement that a qualified MD, DO, PA or APRN must prescribe hearing aids. A note from an audiologist will justify medical necessity when all other criteria are met, as described in Chapter II, Section 60 of the MaineCare Benefits Manual.

MaineCare rulemaking to permanently adopt these changes is forthcoming.
