Update to Proposed School-Based Health Services Rule
After receiving initial feedback, the Department of Health and Human Services is withdrawing its proposed rule to consolidate Medicaid (MaineCare) school-based health services into a new Section 106. The intent of the rule was to ensure that the Department balances the need to comply with federal rules and to ensure access to critical services, with children's well-being at the center. Following additional engagement with stakeholders and education regarding the program's goals, the Department will re-propose an updated rule. We are committed to working in partnership with the Department of Education, schools and pre-k programs, among other stakeholders, to best meet the needs of children and their families throughout Maine.
While we will continue to accept comments through Friday, February 28, 2020, we are cancelling the public hearing on February 18, 2020. Once a new rule has been proposed, we will schedule a new public hearing and comment period to gather public input.
