The Office of Child and Family Services invites you to participate in a training offered by Disability Rights Maine (DRM) regarding Supported Decision-Making and recent legislative changes to Maine’s Probate Code.

Supported Decision-Making (SDM), an alternative to guardianship, allows people with disabilities to retain their decision-making capacity by choosing supports to help them make choices.

This training will provide information about SDM and how it and other less restrictive alternatives are incorporated into the new Probate Code, which goes into effect in July 2019. Additionally, these workshops will provide practical information related to the use of self-determination goals (self-advocacy, goal setting, decision-making, and self-awareness) as part of the planning process for youth.

Training dates and locations are listed below. All trainings will take place from 9am-11am.  To register, please send an email with your name and the training you wish to attend to Linda Leighton at lleighton@drme.org

We look forward to seeing you in 2019!
