DAFS Commissioner Disappointed in Meeting with Senate President and Portland Mayor

AUGUSTA – H. Sawin Millett, Jr., Commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) met this afternoon with Senate President Justin Alfond and Portland Mayor Michael Brennan. The Commissioner planned to address the concerns the Senate President and Mayor have been raising in the press over the last week about accessibility to the new DHHS/DOL consolidated offices to be built in South Portland. After the meeting, the Commissioner has issued the following statement:

“As Commissioner of DAFS, I was disappointed to hear Mayor Brennan say that he is unwilling to work with the State to address the concerns he and the Senate President raised on accessibility to the new Portland area consolidated DHHS/DOL state facility. Despite the Mayor’s refusal to even talk about this important issue with me, I remain committed to ensuring the accessibility issues are addressed for needy Mainer’s in Cumberland County before DHHS and DOL transition to their new location in 2015.”
