AUGUSTA - February 12, 2026 - The Maine Department of Transportation today released its 20262028 Work Plan, a three-year blueprint outlining 2,798 planned transportation projects totaling $4.5 billion in investments across Maine. The Work Plan details all planned operations, planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities the Department expects to undertake over the next three calendar years.

"This document reflects thousands of hours of work across the Department," said MaineDOT Commissioner Dale F. Doughty. We recognize that our transportation system touches every household and every business, every day. We plan carefully, adjust when necessary, and keep our focus where it belongson delivering a transportation network that serves Maine.

The 20262028 Work Plan will:

- Pave 3,046 miles of State and State Aid highways - Rehabilitate or replace 235 bridges, including major preservation efforts for the Casco Bay Bridge and the Aroostook River Bridge - Expand and enhance transit services statewide - Advance active transportation projects in Sanford, Windham, Portland/Roux, and the Mountain Division Trail Until Rail segment - Invest in ports, rail, ferries and aviation, reflecting the multimodal nature of Maine's economy

While federal funding uncertainty remains, MaineDOT will continue to plan ahead, adapt, and deliver projects that maintain and strengthen Maines transportation network.
