The MaineLinks Weeks of July 15th and 22nd, 2024 Maine Department of Labor sent this bulletin at 07/12/2024 09:11 AM EDT The MaineLinks Newsletter Weeks of July 15th and 22nd, 2024 What to Know The Maine Department of Labor has awarded Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) a $485,521 contract to expand employment opportunities in Central and Northeastern Maine for justice-involved individuals and those in recovery. This will be done through the Progressive Employment model (PE). The (PE) model is a dual-customer, team approach that uses work-based learning strategies to meet the needs of businesses and jobseekers with barriers to employment. The PE model is targeted at jobseekers with disabilities, including those with the most significant disabilities, and other barriers to employment, including limited to no work history, corrections involvement, substance abuse issues, and other qualities that may signal risk to a business. PE is predicated on a dual-customer philosophy, making information about business engagement key to better serving VR enrolled job seekers in finding work experiences while ensuring employer needs are met by the VR program. The PE model is fundamentally based on businesses being partners and clients of VR for the process to work effectively by Believing that everyone is ready for something Embracing that small success leads to further success Providing flexibility and creativity based on each situation Ensuring low risk for both the employer and the participant Eliminating the need for consumers to be “job ready” Veterans Corner CareerOneStop offers resources for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. Dialysis technicians work under a doctor or nurse to ensure proper operation of the dialysis machine, monitor vital signs, and educate and inform patients. They are also responsible for cleaning and maintaining dialysis machines and equipment. Dialysis technicians must have a high school diploma or equivalent as well as training in an accredited certification program. They then must pass either the CHT or CCHT exam. This summer thousands of households in Maine will be receiving EBT cards in the mail to help provide their children with healthy nutrition while school is out. The federal program is called SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT. According to the DHHS website, almost 100,000 Maine students were automatically enrolled in the program to receive a one-time $120 in 2024.
