The Efficiency Maine Trust (Efficiency Maine) is the independent, quasi-state agency established to plan and implement energy efficiency programs in Maine. Through its suite of nationally recognized programs, Efficiency Maine provides consumer information, marketing support, demonstration pilots, discounts, rebates, loans, and other initiatives to promote high-efficiency equipment and operations that help Maine’s homes, businesses, and institutions reduce their energy costs and lower their greenhouse gas emissions. Don’t be fooled by this warm spurt, heating season is fast approaching and there are ways to optimize your heating costs: Use the Sun-Open the curtains on sunny days and close them at night to maximize efficiency. Buy an energy efficient space heater for larger rooms. Seal up doors and windows & Shut the doors to rooms not in use. Replace the filters on your heating units. Use your oven to cook more. Insulation- keeping the heat in whether attic, walls, or floor. Veterans Corner Building social support systems with Veterans in the community is an important part of ensuring Veterans’ overall health. Veterans Socials enhance communication and foster bonds among Veterans and others in the community. They are a place to meet friends, find resources, and have fun with other Veterans and community members. These Socials come in many forms, and hosts are encouraged to shape them based on attendees’ needs and preferences. Nutty Netties Café in the Auburn Mall is hosting Military Social GameDay every Friday from 9a.m.-noon. Activities are various board and card games, feel free to bring your favorite! Training Talk! The Maine Department of Labor (MDOL) and University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) announced the launch of the University of Maine at Augusta's cybersecurity and IT registered apprenticeship program. The mutually beneficial Maine Apprenticeship Program, in place since works with both employers and workers to fulfill workforce talent needs and connect people to training pathways and high-quality jobs. Apprenticeship gives workers an opportunity to “earn while they learn,” and receive a nationally recognized, portable credential without accumulating debt. A proven hiring, training, and retention strategy, over 90 percent of registered apprentices nationwide continue to work with their employer once their training is complete. UMA’s registered apprenticeship program will provide employers with a proven way of recruiting and training new hires, while also having the opportunity to upskill existing employees in critical cybersecurity skills and competencies. Materials that librarians handle include books, periodicals, recordings, databases, and all digital media, and they may work in a range of settings, such as libraries, museums, archives, governments, and schools. Most librarians require a bachelor’s degree in library sciences or a related field, and many positions require a master’s degree. And MORE! The Maine Department of Education (DOE) invites students, friends, families, community members, educational organizations or associations, co-workers, and supervisors to nominate school employees for the RISE Award. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in: Work performance; School and community involvement; Leadership and commitment; Local support (from co-workers, school administrators, community members, etc., who speak to the nominee’s exemplary work); and Enhancement of classified school employees’ image in the community and in schools.
