Good afternoon,
This notice is to announce a public comment period for a proposed dredging project in Jonesport:
Notice of Public Comment Regarding Fishing Industry Impacts of Proposed Maintenance Dredge, U.S. Coast Guard Station, Jonesport
Pursuant to 38 M.R.S. 480-D, sub-9, the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR) is required to provide the Maine Department of Environmental Protection with an assessment of the impacts on the fishing industry of a proposed dredging operation. The U. S. Coast Guard Station (USCG) in Jonesport has submitted a maintenance dredge proposal for the boat basin and the surrounding facility area on Moosabec Reach.
The USCG must maintain access to and from the local waterway channels during all tide cycles to adequately perform their mission duties, which include timely search and rescues in the area. The USCG is proposing to mechanically dredge approximately 5,230 cubic yards of mixed sand and silt from shoaled areas totaling 1.46 acres within the boat basin at the USCG station. The proposed project area will be dredged to the permitted depths of -10 and -12 feet mean lower low water plus one foot of allowable overdepth. The applicant proposes to dispose of this material at the Douglas Island Disposal Sites in Milbridge. Construction would occur this winter, prior to April 8. Maps and a written description of the haul route are included at the end of this notice.
For general information about this project, please contact Denis-Marc Nault at Denis-Marc.Nault@maine.gov or (207) 592-0512.
