Statement from Commissioner Keliher on Today's Proposed Whale Regulation Announcement by NOAA

Dear Industry Member,

Today NOAA published the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and proposed rule to modify the Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan this morning on its website at https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/new-england-mid-atlantic/marine-mammal-protection/atlantic-large-whale-take-reduction-plan#current-action. DMR will be reviewing the proposed rule and will prepare comments after we have had an opportunity to conduct a thorough evaluation. In the meantime, I urge you all to review the DEIS and the proposed regulation and to prepare your own comments – it is vital that you all have a voice in this regulation. Comments are due on the DEIS by March 1, 2021, and on the proposed rule by March 1, 2021.
