Many Erosion Control Certifications will be expiring for individuals at the end of December, and continuing education hours are required to keep your certification current. You don’t have to wait until expiration to take classes, so even if you expire in 2026, you can still get recertification credits.
As we approach the end of the year, we encourage certified individuals to check their certification expirations and contact information for accuracy. You can check your certification status here: NPS Training Center - Certified Contractor List, Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

The NPSTC will be offering in-person trainings statewide this fall and winter, with more being added in other locations over time. For anyone recertifying, we highly encourage taking classes you have not yet attended (instead of attending the introductory class again). We partner with towns and nonprofits to offer these trainings across the state, so reach out if you’d like to assist in setting up a training in your area.

The OUR SHORE Reference Guide is complete. The OUR SHORE Program and Reference Guide reflect a collective commitment to shoreline resilience and environmental protection. Critical contributions of individuals from state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, municipalities, and shoreline stabilization engineers, designers, landscape architects, and earthworks contractors created the content-rich guidance. Our hope is that continued collaboration will inform ongoing adaptation, and increase the applicability, of this guide and its utility to users. We look forward to continued collaboration and partnership with shoreline restoration professionals across the state. Printed copies will be available at the Practitioner Roundtable this October and at other outreach events. |

Registration is open for the 2nd Annual OUR SHORE Practitioner Roundtable: Regulatory updates, training, and practitioner networking on nature-based & hybrid shoreline erosion designs.
Join practitioners, regulators, and partners on October 27th, 2026, at the OUR SHORE Annual Practitioner Roundtable for the latest updates on the OUR SHORE program and nature-based and hybrid practices to shoreline erosion control. Connect with peers across the sector and learn through presentations and hands-on training. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of materials, methods, performance, and hybrid design; vendors and resources; funding opportunities and available technical assistance; and key updates on advanced certification.
