On October 21, 2024, Brookfield White Pine Hydro LLC (BWPH) submitted an application for a Water Quality Certification (WQC) pursuant to Section 401 of the Clean Water Act, 33 U.S.C. §§ 1251 et. seq. for the federal relicensing and continued operation of the Shawmut Hydroelectric Project (Project). Federal regulations require the Department to act on this application within one year, by October 20, 2025. 

On May 8, 2025, Merimil Limited Partnership, Hydro Kennebec LLC, and BWPH submitted applications for WQC pursuant to Section 401 of the Clean Water Act, 33 U.S.C. § § 1251 et. seq. in support of a FERC license amendment request to incorporate the terms of the Kennebec Species Protection Plan at the Lockwood, Hydro Kennebec, and Weston Hydroelectric Projects. Federal regulations require the Department to act on this application within one year, by May 7, 2026. The Department will evaluate the applications cumulatively.
