The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is notifying interested parties of the opportunity to submit a request to add or remove a waterbody from the Nonpoint Source (NPS) Priority Watersheds List and is providing notification of DEP-proposed waterbody changes. The purpose of the list is to encourage NPS abatement work in watersheds most vulnerable to NPS pollution. The list is used to help prioritize the Maine Department of Environmental Protection NPS water pollution control efforts and attract local communities to take action to restore or protect waters impaired or threatened by NPS pollution. The NPS priority watersheds list was updated in 2014 as part of the development of the Maine NPS Management Plan.
