The Maine Forest
Service (MFS) has reached a settlement regarding two violations of Maine’s
Liquidation Harvesting rules on properties owned by Dillon Investments, LLC of
Anson, Maine. The violations occurred on two separate parcels of land in
Madison and Norridgewock in Somerset County.
The liquidation harvesting plans developed by
a licensed forester for the parcels were not in compliance with Maine’s
Liquidation Harvesting Rule, and the parcels were either sold or offered for
sale before Dillon Investments owned them for a period of five years. The
harvest plans developed for both parcels did not contain all of the required
elements necessary to comply with the rule.
In
the Settlement Agreements, Dillon Investments did not admit to violating the
rule. They agreed to pay a $6,200.00 civil penalty for the Madison property and
not to sell the Norridgewock parcel before August 16, 2017 in order to resolve
the situation.
The liquidation harvesting investigation and
settlement negotiations were carried out by Maine Forest Service staff and the
Office of the Attorney General.
The
Maine Forest Service has released the 2013 Silvicultural Activities Report.
