Thinking About Hosting A Plant Bingo Event?

Plant Bingo events are becoming a fun way to bring people together. The Horticulture Program is all for more creative customer connections. We also do not want any licensed plant sellers to unknowingly violate the law.

Here's what you should know.

  • Before planning a plant bingo event, it's important to understand how Maine's gaming laws apply.
  • Under Maine law, BEANO or BINGO games in which participants pay to play may only be conducted by registered nonprofit organizations, such as volunteer fire departments, agricultural fairs, and qualified charitable organizations. For-profit businesses are not permitted to conduct these games.
  • Bingo can be played by any group, but only if it is totally free. If there is a charge to play, purchase supplies, etc., then a license is required.

Maine's BEANO and BINGO laws are outlined in Title 17, Chapter 13-A. Section 325 of the law establishes potential civil penalties of up to $1,000 for violations.

If you have questions about whether your event complies with Maine's BEANO or BINGO laws, the Gambling Control Unit is happy to help. They can be reached at 207-626-3900 before you finalize your plans.
