New Maine Geologic Fact and Locality Available
The latest Maine Geologic Fact and Locality, A Tale of Two Shorelines: Historical Shoreline Changes at Higgins Beach, Scarborough, ME, takes us back in time, beginning in the 1920’s, to visually narrate the evolution of seawall development along Higgins Beach over the past century. By extensively analyzing historical photography, historical aerial photography, and historical photo re-creations, this research highlights the noticeable ways that seawalls and development can literally reshape a beach over a hundred years.
Many thanks to Steve Seabury of www.higginsbeachproperties.com for providing access to many of the historical photos used in this project.
