Crystals from on High - First Snow!
The first snow of 2023 clinging to the needles of a White Pine. Below is a view from underneath the needles.
The first snow of the year always fills me with childlike delight. I long to… run outdoors to catch the snow crystals on my tongue and savor the quick cold feeling and then the watery warmth as they melt… explore the woods in search of all the ways snow clings to each surface… find the first animal tracks of the day …wax up my old runner sled and skis, sharpen my ice skates, and find the dark baker’s chocolate squares buried in the back of the cupboard for some hot chocolate… and wonder when there will be enough snow to make a snow sculpture. Winter brings on so many delights. Linked below are several of my previous Nature Notes that I hope inspire you to find joy this winter (which technically begins on the solstice, Dec 21).
