Three Great Ways to Learn about Spruce Budworm in Maine

  1. Review our annual report. Each year, the Maine Forest Service and its cooperator network perform extensive monitoring for spruce budworm (SBW) throughout Maine. The Spruce Budworm in Maine – 2022 Annual Summary Report of monitoring activities is now available for review. Additionally, annual reports from 2015 through 2022 and other relevant information on spruce budworm in Maine can be found right here on our Spruce Budworm Webpage.
  2. Stay updated on the latest research. The SBW Task Force is a joint effort of the Maine Forest Service, Maine Forest Products Council, and the University of Maine's Cooperative Forestry Research Unit (CFRU), along with other leading experts on SBW. UMaine CFRU has recently compiled an 2023 SBW Task Force Executive Summary Update to supplement the guidance document originally published in 2016.
  3. Attend a webinar. Maine Forest Service entomologist Mike Parisio will also present the results of the 2022 monitoring season and provide an overview of spruce budworm activity in Maine from 2019 through 2022 during a webinar on March 24, 2023, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM.
