New Maine Geologic Fact and Locality Available
The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce the latest Maine Geologic Fact and Locality (GFL) release: Mount Agamenticus. Zane Rahabi and Tristan Depew, MGS interns during the summer of 2022, take us to one of southern Maine's most prominent topographic features. Rising over 600 feet from the relatively flat surrounding coastal plain, Mount Agamenticus is part of a regionally unique circular bedrock complex from the Triassic Period. There is also evidence along the trails showing the impacts of Maine's more recent period of glaciation.
If you are interested in being a guest author or if you know of an interesting geologic site that you would like MGS to consider visiting and documenting, please email Christian Halsted, Director, Earth Resources Information, Maine Geological Survey, at christian.h.halsted@maine.gov.
