2022 Outreach Report and Recommendations for
Next Steps in the Rangeley Region
 Background
Over the summer and fall of 2022, Land Use Planning Commission staff gathered community feedback on the status of The Prospective Zoning Plan for the Rangeley Lakes Region (Plan or PZP). The Plan was adopted by the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission (now the Maine Land Use Planning Commission) as an amendment to its Comprehensive Land Use Plan in November 2000. The Plan identifies areas where the community sought to focus the next 20 years’ worth of new development.
The Commission completed its fourth periodic review of the Plan’s progress and effectiveness in 2022. The Plan, the 2022 evaluation report, and other related documents are available on the Commission’s webpage for the Rangeley Prospective Zoning Plan.
The 2022 Evaluation Report concluded that development subdistricts in the region still have a significant amount of undeveloped area. However, recent data indicate a significant increase in the pace of development in the region. Given these findings, the Commission directed staff to conduct community outreach over the course of the summer and fall of 2022 to determine what should happen next with the Rangeley Plan.
Draft Report
A summary of this outreach and community feedback, along with recommendations for next steps, will be presented at the Commission’s regular business meeting next Wednesday, February 8, 2023. The meeting begins at 10:00 am and will be held at the Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St, Bangor. The agenda for the meeting can be found at: LUPC Calendar and Meeting Materials (maine.gov).
