 Make Your Wildlife Watching Count: Deer & Turkey Sightings Wanted
Do you enjoy watching deer or wild turkeys in Maine? If so, you can make your wildlife watching count! The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is asking that you record and submit your sightings. You'll be helping biologists better understand Maine's deer and wild turkey populations.
Maine Deer Spy
Report your deer sightings in Maine between August 1 and September 30.
Record* and submit the:
- Location
- Date and time
- Number of does (adult female deer with no antlers), bucks (deer with antlers), and/or fawns (young deer).
Submit data online or by postal mail.

Wild Turkey August Production Survey
Report your wild turkey sightings in Maine between August 1 and 31.
Record and submit the:
- number of turkey including how many young (poults)
- date, and
- town
Submit observations online here. Or, fill out the form available on this webpage and mail it back.
This helps Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologists monitor annual reproduction and contributes to our management decisions.
This survey is conducted in most of the states in the US, using the same protocol. This allows cross comparisons between states, as each state work towards balancing use of this important wildlife resource, maintaining a sustainable population and social tolerance.
