As part of the Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan, Maine Technology Institute (MTI) has established the Forestry Recovery Initiative (FRI) to distribute $20M in federal funding approved through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).
This initiative provides grant funding to Maine loggers, foresters, sawmill operators, and other members of Maine's forest products sector.
The funding can be used to recover business loss resulting from impacts of the pandemic, as well as to develop new wood products, upgrade infrastructure, and strengthen the supply chain in order to sell products to new markets.
Grants will be available in several phases. The first $10M will be deployed in Phases 1 and 2.
- Phase 1 will provide pandemic relief for companies across the forestry industry in Maine.
- Phase 2 eligibility criteria and program details will be announced in the near future.
MTI will begin accepting Phase 1 applications on November 22, 2021 with an application deadline of January 31, 2022. In addition, MTI will host weekly FRI application Zoom sessions to answer specific questions about the process.
