New Maine Geologic Fact and Locality Available

Mount David

The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce the latest Maine Geologic Fact and Locality (GFL) release:  Mount David, Lewiston, Maine. MGS intern, Zane Rahabi, takes us into the city and up Mount David for some easily accessible bedrock geology. This small hill next to the Bates College campus is a unique feature in the otherwise flat, surrounding landscape. The hill is an example of pegmatite, an intrusive igneous rock created by the solidification of magma deep underground. You will see unique minerals and crystals around the peak that geologists use as clues to piece together how the surrounding landscape formed.
