The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) is convening two listening sessions with Maine meat and poultry processors to gather their ideas on how DACF can support the industry as it faces high demand, labor shortages, and the need for technical assistance and financial investment.

  • On September 14, 2021, inspected processors will be invited to provide their perspectives.
  • On September 22, 2021, custom exempt processors will also be able to share their ideas.
  • Members of the public are invited to attend these sessions and may ask questions or provide their own feedback during the Q&A section of each listening session.

These listening sessions will help inform the Department as it assesses potential policy, programmatic, funding, or other types of resources to support the industry and navigate the challenges it currently faces. The Department will be reporting its findings and recommendations to the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry in February 2022.
