USDOL WHD & HUD Essential Workers- Essential Protections Webinar: An Overview of Worker Protections, Rights, and Programs during the Covid-19 Pandemic
The Wage & Hour Division’s Northern England District Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is pleased to offer free web-based training on May 19th, 2021 from 10:00am – 11:30am on critical worker protections and programs through WHD’s Essential Workers-Essential Protections Initiative.
Rapid changes in the workplace have surfaced many questions for workers, their advocates, and employers about wages, hours worked, and time off for workers or their family members dealing with serious illness. The Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, and the provisions under the H-2A Program provide protections for workers that may be more crucial now than ever before. The WHD’s Northern New England District Office will provide an update and overview of the protections afforded to essential workers under these Acts, with question and answer opportunities (time permitting).
HUD representatives will discuss key changes in the recently released final rule implementing the "Section 3" statute. Section 3 requires that recipients of certain HUD funds make economic opportunities available for low- and very low-income individuals, especially recipients of government assistance for housing, living in the areas where HUD funds are spent. The changes include promoting a newly created portal to connect low- and very low income people, who need jobs most, with businesses who have Section 3 job opportunities in their area.
