Summer Intern Position Annoucement

The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce a job opening for a college-level geology student in our Augusta office this summer. The position, made possible by USGS National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program grant, will assist with a large digital conversion project to make mining claims maps and claim file reference information digitally available.

Job duties include:

• Scanning claims maps, georeferencing them using GIS, and digitizing claim locations into the MGS spatial database.
• Scanning the claim files and organizing them into PDF documents for sharing in the MGS online document repository.

This project serves the on-going efforts at MGS to make historical, paper-based data available in digital formats on the MGS website.
