New Maine Geologic Fact and Locality Available

The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce the release of the latest Maine Geologic Fact and Locality (GFL): Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary, Elliottsville Twp. For spectacular views of the mountains and pristine ponds just south of the Moosehead Lake region, hike the trails at Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary. The trails also lead the hiker through progressively higher stages of metamorphism in the slate bedrock brought about by intrusion of molten magma into the rocks around 400 million years ago. See if you can follow the progression on the moderate hike to the ponds and the more strenuous hike to the peaks. Excellent rock exposures and grand views await you!
